Lyon .. but first let's talk rugby!

Next stop Lyon for 9 days.

The reason we were in France at this particular time was to also see some Rugby World Cup games. We had relatively low expectations as to the likelihood of the Wallabies winning the cup, but we did expect they would make the quarter finals! That was not to be!

Fiji beat us in a very close game and indeed should also have beaten Wales and topped the group bar some poor refereeing decisions and one of their star players dropping a ball in the 80th minute with the try line open! They absolutely deserved to beat us and we did not deserve to make the quarter finals.

As I write this, there is a theoretical chance that the Wallabies could qualify, but that is all it is, theoretical. To be honest at this stage my view is it would be a travesty if they did, and I will be cheering for Fiji in their last game on Sunday night (they only need a bonus point - they should win easily) - they deserve to go through. England watch out - they beat you in May and whilst you have improved since then, so have they!!

Fortunately our holiday only had 6 nights of rugby planned over 7 weeks. We have sold the last few tickets and are concentrating on the other great things France has to offer.

We saw a couple of amazing museums in Lyon. Firstly the Musee des Confluences (which is located at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône rivers in an area called La Confluence). This area has been restored from old factories and river wharves and is full of modern buildings (including the Musee).

The second great museum was Lugundum - aka the Museum of Gallo Roman civilisation. Two huge ancient roman theatres (Teatro and the Odeon) with an excellent adjoining modern museum.
