Napoli - Campioni d'Italia

Our trip to Italy started in Napoli (Naples) and we arrived as it became clear that the local football team Napoli FC would win the Serie A championship. They were finally crowned champions a few days later ….. and the city went wild (and has not stopped!). Napoli's triumph ended the city's long wait since Argentine great Diego Maradona led them to two championships in 1986-87 and 1989-90.

Our hotel was right in the centre of the old town and it’s fair to say on the Thursday night it was absolute bedlam. Huge crowds in front of every bar watching the game, typical European cheering and flares going off every second minute. We could still hear the noise at 4am the next morning. Throughout the week every where we went there were people bursting into cheering and singing groups and every building was covered in flags or streamers!

But we were not here for the football and set out to explore the city and surrounds, starting with a streetwalk.
