Day zero - frustration - twiddling my thumbs!
There is a reason we don’t fly Jetstar, but on this occasion there are only 2 airlines that fly to Vietnam direct - Jetstar and Vietnam Airlines. I picked Jetstar as I would get lounge access and Qantas’s safety record is way higher than Vietnam Airlines. Yet again the Jetstar curse struck. Two hours before I was due to head to the airport, I got a text saying the time of my flight had changed. Only problem was it was the same time - 4.30pm.
Fortunately I read the text again, only to realise it was 4.30pm on the next day - at least I didn’t go to the airport - lots of people did! Apparently they had a mechanical problem with the airplane coming back from Vietnam the previous night, leaving us with no plane.
24 hours later, tried again. This time I get to the airport, check in no problem and they call the flight, only to leave us sitting in the waiting area (rather than the lovely Qantas business lounge), for 1.5 hours as they sort out paperwork. Apparently the computer that does the paperwork was down all day, so they had to do it all manually. Once they boarded us, we had a further 1.5 hours before we finally taxi out, getting to Saigon airport at 2am, 27 hours after original schedule!
