Where did Game of Thrones come from?

I thought this holiday was a golfing holiday?

Well that all changed once Thérèse joined me and we spent time in Belfast and the Giants Causeway area of Northern Ireland.

Suddenly it became a Game of Thrones spectacular.

Samson and Goliath - the huge cranes at Harland & Wollf shipyards dominate the Belfast skyline.

For those who are into Game of Thrones, Northern Ireland is the place to go. Apparently over 70% of the filming occurred there, either at two studios or at 25 locations around the North.

First stop was the Linen Mill studios in Banbridge, just outside Belfast, which was one of the two main studios for the series and has now been converted into a huge museum / discovery location. Whilst I am not a fan of the series, I have to confess it was an interesting afternoon to learn about how the series was made and we followed it up with visiting many of the most scenic locations from the series over the following week!
