Rome - the eternal city
Next stop was Rome - have to confess that was two months ago - things have been a little crazy since we got back so I haven’t gotten around to finishing my Rome photos until now!
The Pantheon was a pain in the neck to photo - took 3 visits to get some good images. Fortunately it was only 300m from our apartment and there was a great lunch sandwich place half way that I visited more than once!
On our last day in Rome, we headed out to Mussolini’s Eur district where he was trying to recreate the grandeur of Ancient Rome on a modern, brutalist scale.
The area was originally chosen in the 1930s as the site for the 1942 World's Fair which Mussolini planned to open to celebrate twenty years of Fascism, the letters EUR standing for Esposizione Universale Roma ("Universal Exposition Rome"). The project was originally called E42 after the year in which the exhibition was to be held. The planned exhibition never took place due to World War II.
